KINDNESS

7/25/2021

There is a lot of unkindness in the world. People who are unkind are usually hurting and afraid themselves. What an act of courage it is to move through the world, despite your own hurts and fears, and open space for others to feel safe through your embodied kindness.

In mindful presence,
Lori Furbush
In a world that lives like a fist, mercy is not more than waking with your hands open.

―Mark Nepo

FEELING

7/18/2021

We often make choices without thinking, bypassing our wisdom and better judgment. With some level of detachment, we may also be bypassing emotions that are asking to be felt. When trying to create a healthy behavior change, we can learn to make the wiser choice, but it is also important to acknowledge our discomfort. Unprocessed emotions can build like a pressure cooker, leaving us no choice but to implode or explode.

In mindful presence,
Lori Furbush
Say yes to the feelings, even as you say no to the behavior.

—Daniel J. Siegel

FORGIVING

7/11/2021

Forgiving has nothing to do with the other person. Letting go of the story, so many chapters read and re-read so many times they’re written on your bones, is a bold and courageous act of kindness for yourself

In mindful presence,
Lori Furbush
Forgiveness can be bittersweet. It contains the sweetness of the release of a story that has caused us pain, but also the poignant reminder that even our dearest relationships change over the course of a lifetime.

―Sharon Salzberg

EXPERIENCING

7/4/2021

Human beings are often human doings. Lost for hours in thought, emotion, and all the doing, the challenge is remembering to spend time just being. It can be helpful to set a reminder on your phone or smart watch or anchor the practice of being to the moment before you eat every meal. Then pause, sense the body, orient to the space around you, and let that be enough, even if just for one inhale and one exhale. Experience your completeness.

In mindful presence,
Lori Furbush
We think that accomplishing things will complete us, when it is experiencing life that will.

―Mark Nepo
