Our basic self-preservation instinct often leads us to want to win by overpowering another (the fight response). We may also have found that survival requires taking a back seat or hiding (the flight response). Empowerment transcends these basic instincts when we offer the space for both self and other to be accepted, to be valued, to be seen and heard.
